Two Fireflies One Camera – Priyam Datta and Shaurabh Agrawal

The Lifestyle Portal came across the magic of what Two Fireflies One Camera had to offer over a unique photography session – a #Loveyourself campaign launched by Founder Priyam Datta that made people fall in love with themselves all over again.

By spending an hour during the photo shoot we exchanged notes about life and found an instant connect; as and predictable as we are, we decided to write about Priyam and her Co-Founder Shaurabh Agrawal, both 27-year-olds about their love for photography, the celebration of life and here’s their story.

Priyam is a PGD in Advertising & Marketing, and Shaurabh holds a Bachelors Degree in Banking & Insurance. While Priyam has been into Photography since 2011, Shaurabh entered into the stream since 2013.

It is hard to believe that the creators of such masterpieces in photography are completely self-taught, who have honed their skills on their own, on the job, from senior photographers and online.

How did it all begin?

Photography was always a passion for Priyam. When she started working in the field of Advertising, that’s when she got the right exposure to Photography and met friends who inspired her to continue shooting.

“Wedding Photography started with photographing at a friend’s wedding just for the fun of it even though I was just a guest. Then I met Stuti from The Cheesecake Project who too encouraged and helped me by taking her along with her to different weddings. When people started liking the photos, work started coming in. Shaurabh joined in soon after and together we created Two Fireflies – One Camera,” smiles Priyam.

Challenges faced

“Being a Wedding Photographer is not easy,” admits Priyam, she continues, “It’s a tiring job, physically and mentally. One has to be physically fit in order to survive the long hours and the erratic schedule. “

She also adds how one has to be sensitive during weddings as it is after all not just another event but a very emotional day for the entire family.

“These apart, there can be a lot of technical challenges as well. The equipment may stop working during a shoot, the hard disk might crash – that’s why we always have back-ups and thankfully, we have not faced a major crisis yet,” mentions Priyam.

What makes Two Fireflies One Camera unique?

“In an artistic field like Photography, it is very difficult to compare between two artists. They all have different styles of the art. But I guess what sets us apart is who we are. We are professional photographers but we work with emotions. We humanise the process of photography. Weddings are a roller coaster of emotions. We try our best to empathise and understand what our brides and grooms are feeling, what their families are going through, their needs and their difficulties,” explains Priyam.

By now Priyam and Saurabh can judge and sense when the bride/groom is joyous, nervous or just anxious. They understand how the bride and groom cannot be mechanical robots in the midst of such human emotions.

She further adds, “I think this is what sets us apart. Many couples have told us that we often become more than just photographers. We become their friend in need, a partner in crime, brother, bridesmaid, best man. We help them dress up, feed them food when they’re busy, help them calm down when they are nervous, give suggestions when they’re confused, hug their sentimental mums…. and that is exactly how we love working. By becoming a part of the family. It’s beautiful.”

Favourite subject of photography

Although they are majorly wedding Photographers, Two Fireflies One Camera also do Maternity and Baby Portraits.

“Our favourite is Baby Portraits; it is the most difficult job to photograph an infant or toddler but it is the most joyful task ever; we love it!” exclaims Priyam.

The process involved

Priyam explains in detail, “Well the process starts the moment the couples decide to get us on board for their wedding. Discussions keep happening throughout so that we are all on the same page. We always encourage our couples to share with us their vision for their Wedding Photographs and Films so that we get to understand their nature and expectations. Our couples too make an effort to understand us as photographers and friends. These often start months before the actual wedding. Most of the times we start planning for the couple shoot first and that really helps us to bond with each other. This bond is very important between a photographer and a couple. There have been many times where by the end of the wedding, we have become such close to the couple and the family that we shed a tear or two at the bidaai. This journey of planning and dreaming that goes on for so many months bring us closer to the couple and families and we do understand their emotions during the wedding.”

Memorable moments

“It was in August 2014 and we can never ever forget this beautiful wedding we photographed. It was when Priya and Shekhar (avid travellers) decided to get married in a small ceremony taking place in their home with just around 15 loved ones around. We were honoured to have photographed such a soulful wedding where the decor was handmade, the vibe was so positive and even the priest was a female! That was one memorable, beautiful and creative wedding. :)”, recalls Priyam.

Future plans

While they get most of their clients via their official Facebook page or word-of-mouth, you can also find Two Fireflies One Camera on WeddingSutra as well.

Priyam signs off, “Our team is increasing and the only thing that we always have in mind is to create better photographs with each shoot and creating more memories for more people.”
