I Said “No” To Many Traditional Practices of Baby Care – and My Baby Is Happy

With changing times we too have to change the way we look after our children. When I was expecting my daughter I followed my doctor’s advice – I followed a balanced diet of dried fruits, salads, soups and other healthy food items, exercised, meditated and went for walks in the parks – the works!

When she was born, all the fears that so many people drilled into me faded away. Yes, there were sleepless nights, but then somehow I just knew what to do and it just came naturally to me.

I decided that I would massage and bathe my baby and not anyone else. I would use a good quality baby massage oil and sing and talk to her during her bath and bed times. It became an exclusive routine for the both of us and we enjoyed our special ‘me time’, which we still hold very close to us.

As she grew up, I took the extra effort to look for the best and safest possible bath and body products for her.

Realising how sensitive her skin is I made no compromise while shopping for her – that would include clothes as well. Even fabrics such as synthetic, nylon or satin – are not safe for their tender skin and I would be careful only to choose pure cotton fabrics that would allow her skin to breathe and not break her skin into rashes.

While I took care of what I fed her, I also took care what I made her wear or even the bath and body products I used.

In my previous reviews, I have mentioned about products that are safer than many other – the ones I have recently discovered are the Baby Dove brand. I was really happy to see that the goodness of Dove is now available for babies and children as well.

Now winters are a time when the skin goes excessively dry for infants and keep them hydrated and moist is very important.

The Dove Baby Soap that we used recently was such a delight! It has been developed for babies with normal to dry skin. Unlike other baby bars, the Rich Moisture Baby Bar contains Dove’s ¼ moisturising cream and DEFI technology, resulting in a unique blend of cleansers and moisturisers that leave delicate baby skin soft, nourished, and delicately scented.

It contains stearic and palmitic acid to replenish the essential nutrients lost during cleansing and help preserve skin barrier function, meaning more moisture and nutrients stay in.

With a mild and caring fragrance developed specifically for delicate baby skin, it is hypoallergenic. Plus, its pH neutral formula respects skin’s natural pH balance.

Make bath times fun with a few rubber duckies and bath toys – let the child play and splash in a little water during a bath time to make a mundane ritual a lot more enjoyable; and the best part is, it helps you and your child stick to a routine.
