Papa Roti, Dubai – Journey to the centre of the bun

Papa Roti Buns, Coffee & MuffisOh my! I don’t even know from where to begin in my review for Papa Roti. I’ve never tasted such beautifully crafted sweet n salty crusty buns before.

I visited Papa Roti at City Walk, Dubai with my soul sister – a very special person in my life after a long hiatus and it was a perfect ambience to catch up on good old times over yes, you guessed it right – soft heavenly crusty buns made exclusively at Papa Roti.

Like most Iranian restaurants in India are famous for their ‘bun maska’ and ‘chai’ combinations, Papa Roti is famous for their flavoured buns and coffee.

Now close your eyes and visualise – soft and mellow buns with a naughty crust on top are served fresh and hot on wooden platters that you dig into with your cinnamon café latte.

We also opted for a sinful choco chip muffin and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. It was smooth and soft from within and had just the right amount of crust on top.

You could scoop the chocco chip muffin with a spoon that helped to balance out the tinge of bitterness in the coffee and the mild saltiness of the bun.

Oh, and did I mention that the buns have a buttery centre? So it’s like the journey to the centre of the bun to find a soulful dollop of butter that will leave you excited like a little child who’s been rewarded with her favourite warm and freshly baked bun.

If there’s one thing I’d like to go back to Dubai to relive a heart felt conversation, then I’d pick Papa Roti at City Walk for its venue and for their home crafted buns that add some fun to your conversations.

Papa Roti has flavoured buns too, such as chocolate, but we chose to stick to the original flavoured buns and we so very happy with our selection.

The staff are courteous, they got us a high chair for my two year old to play little chef with a Papa Roti bun and a bit of the choco chip muffin that I had ordered for her, but once I got a taste of it, I was reluctant to share it with her too! Papa Roti, Dubai - Food Review by Tanya Munshi

If the weather is kind enough and offers you some cool breeze and a pleasant temperature, sit outs and cafes are ideal in Dubai. As I took a stroll across City Walk what I liked most was that people of all age groups and ethnicity were at a café enjoying a quick drink, with friends or alone or catching up on work as they worked on their laptops.

I wish a similar concept would become more popular in our country provided the women could sit alone for hours sipping coffee, reading or writing at a table, in an open café. I’m sure and hopeful that the trend is picking up, but we’re still a far cry from other countries where women can feel safe sitting alone to enjoy a drink, a book or a meal by themselves.

If our streets were cleaner and quieter (not to forget our love affair with honking on the streets) with some space available for dainty cafes to put up their stalls our country too could have such brilliant outdoor dining concepts just like the West; and if that happens, The Lifestyle Portal will be so happy to be at a café to work on our laptops and churn new features for you!
