Why Small Wins Matter. The Importance of Acknowledging Everyday Victories

Social media is flooded with success stories—new ventures, career milestones, viral content. It makes you wonder:

Are all our victories even worth mentioning?

Everyone is doing everything—food bloggers, home chefs, YouTubers reviewing films, travel influencers, and home dĂ©cor experts. Is there any space left for the quiet achievers, those who don’t flaunt their craft, their struggles, or their wins on social media?

But does sharing success online define its actual value? Or does the real worth of personal victories lie in how they make us feel rather than the number of likes they receive?

Childhood Wins Were Different—And Simpler

Growing up in the 80s, kids rarely had personal televisions at home. There was that one neighbour’s house where we’d gather to watch Giant Robot or He-Man, sipping on Rasna (the fruit drink of our childhood).

And yet, the real thrill was outside—running back to play chor-police, pakadam-pakdai, or pittu in the streets. Winning a round of chor-police felt monumental! We all played as a team. We belonged.

Success in 2025: Are We Losing Small Wins?

Fast-forward to today—everything is measured with the number of followers and likes on our social media handles. If it’s worth celebrating, it’s worth posting, right? Not really, not all the time. Sadly, we’re now limiting our successes to what is ‘social media’ worthy and not what is worthy in our own eyes when we see ourselves in the mirror.

For years, I avoided Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Keeping up was exhausting. Everyone was bagging promotions, earning awards, and acquiring new degrees.

But that made me think—is success only real if it’s shared online? Or does its true joy lie in how it shapes our lives rather than how many people notice it?

Defining Small Wins—Moments That Matter

  • Getting through a tough day when struggling with heartbreak, grief, or a mental health issue.
  • Finally, mastering a song after weeks of practice.
  • Completing a lesson in a subject that once felt impossible.
  • Getting your child to eat their greens without a fuss.
  • Recovering from an injury and being able to walk again.
  • Fixing a bug on your computer or phone after hours of frustration.

If we don’t stop to celebrate the little things, how will we ever truly appreciate the big milestones?

Why Small Wins Matter More Than Big Wins

Success is guaranteed to everyone in some form—small or big; and it’s all about perception. If we don’t acknowledge the small victories, we’ll never truly be satisfied with the big ones. Who decides what’s worth celebrating? Don’t let social media or others define your wins.

Final Thought: Stop Chasing Diamonds, Start Seeing Stars

We’re missing the stars in the sky while searching for diamonds.

What small victory made you feel accomplished or grateful recently?

Take a moment. Breathe. Celebrate it. Because every win counts.

I’d love to hear your story.
