Chilled (Boiled) Kala Chana or Chickpea Salad

With the abundance of food options available, maintaining a healthy weight and budget can be challenging. Food delivery apps offer a convenient solution by providing us with a variety of options to choose from within minutes.

While it’s wonderful to indulge every once in a while, going overboard can impact our personal health and wallets.

One thing that I’ve been practising for a while now, and it has been working wonders, is preparing some meal and snacking options in advance that would not take much time and effort.

One example of a dish that I frequently make is a cold salad made with boiled kala chana, or black chickpeas. I always keep a supply of chickpeas in the refrigerator so that I can enjoy a sweet, tangy, and spicy snack whenever the mood strikes.

To prepare the salad, I simply take a couple of spoonfuls of boiled kala chana and add freshly squeezed lemon juice, chopped green chilies (if desired), and chopped coriander leaves. I also add a dash of chaat masala, but no extra salt is needed since the kala chana has already been pre-boiled with salt.

And voila! It tastes fresh as it’s eaten chilled (during summers or warm during winters), and it is satiating and totally guilt-free.

Of course, this small serving of boiled kala chana has a host of nutritional benefits. Boiled kala chana is a nutritious and delicious food choice. It’s high in protein, fibre, vitamins, and minerals and low in fat and calories. Eating boiled kala chana can help improve digestion, lower cholesterol levels, regulate blood sugar levels, and increase energy levels.

Having this in my fridge prevents me from ordering all the sinful goodies that the food delivery apps will gladly bring to my doorstep.

Homemade chicken cutlets with sunny side up!
