1. Starting up a business with Understanding the complete working Process:

While I was working as a special educator, I was introduced into business by a family friend. As I had no prior business knowledge or guidance, I just went about with it assuming that the reference given by a family member is good enough to rely on a business partner. Hence, without understanding the complete procedure, investment, legal and financial issues and relying on others I started the business.

The lesson learned was that we need to always understand the complete process. Have the knowledge to be able to understand the documentation, do proper paperwork with the help of professional people and understand the legalities and the financial aspects of businesses, before starting your own. Most importantly, read up from verified government sites, attend conferences and learn from people who understand the business.

2. Understanding the Market:

Initially, I did not understand the market. In any business, you must understand the buyer /client and accordingly discuss the product and its process so as to put it across to your target audience. A client’s background and surroundings also makes a difference in our business. Now I take the complete details of the client background, qualifications, special requirements of the clients and all possible legal and financial details so that I can give them all the available options to their requirements.

3. Digital Media:

Digital Media is the most important feature in today’s world. You need to have your presence here, so that people can see you, clients can connect and most importantly, it helps the company to grow. When I started out, it was a challenge for me to understand this media as I was not a computer savvy person. I could not think of this option and found it difficult to do it and hence marketing of my business was getting difficult.

The lesson learned was that I started attending computer classes. I started meeting people from Digital Media and then changed my business marketing plan. I started a website, where I posted regular updates about our business. Eventually, I started promoting more on different social handles. However, I still feel, that I need to learn more in this field.

4. Open to New Opportunities:

We must keep taking up good business options and add new verticals in business. More options will increase new business, new interactions and open new avenues. I am an Immigration and an Overseas Education consultant from the last 19 years. I meet various University representatives, Immigration lawyers, students and parents from different cultures and financial backgrounds from different countries. This helps me in understanding their culture, markets and lifestyles.

But the initial mistake that I did was that I  did not understand just casual meetings and unprofessional people should not be taken as business partners or coordinators. Now I visit the place, check the requirements, understand the markets, meet the professionals and follow proper steps then proceed accordingly.

5. Last but Most Important Maintain Good Relationships:

This is one thing that I very strongly believe and the most important feature that should be followed by all individuals. I try and keep in touch with all my clients and students who are now settled overseas. This has helped me a lot when I ventured into my second business РCrimson Bluz where we make Home F̩cor and Beauty products. In this line of work, I have to deal with craftsmen, designers and traders and hence, respecting their craft and skill of utmost importance.
