Valentine’s Day Contest – Entry No. 7 – ‘Love in the Rocky Mountains’

Wow, a beautiful love story all the way from the USA, sent in to us by Shoba Sharad Rajgopal. This makes us want to fall in love all over again and believe in all those romantic movies we’ve grown up watching.

Here’s a love story of this gorgeous Indian beauty and a dashing American man. Read on to fall in love…

Read Shoba’s Love Story here:

It’s been just a decade since my dear husband Evan and I walked up those steps at the courthouse in Boulder, Colorado to sign on the dotted line…

My tall Midwestern beau, who I first got to hear as he played drums with his rock band at the Boulder Mall.

But this lovely winter morning, the sun was bright on our faces as we rode our bicycles from campus and walked in hand in hand. My dear Slovenian friend Zala was there as our witness, and her bright blue eyes sparkled with delight as she watched us stroll into the quiet courthouse.

My hand was firm as I signed my name, yes, I Shoba Sharad Rajgopal from India do take this handsome American drummer Evan Eisentrager as my lawfully wedded husband.

After the brief ceremony, we rode our bikes back and I walked into my class to teach for the afternoon, with a flower tucked into my bicycle handle, while my students cheered!

Inter-faith, inter-cultural, inter-racial, inter-national marriages are always difficult to negotiate, especially when both individuals have some very different interests and spend months apart too every year.

But love, understanding and a sense of humor go a long way to maintain the relationship; and who best to guide us but the great Lebanese poet, Khalil Gibran?
“Love one another, but make not a bond of love,
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls…”
