Short Edition – The coolest toddler wear in town

They say good things come in small packages and we can prove it to you. For all the young mums (rhymes with young guns) out there who’d like to pick up something refreshingly cute and chic at the same time – check out some really cool and earthy designs from Short Edition.

The Lifestyle Portal became an instant fan after visiting one of her first exhibitions in Mumbai.

Meet Sneha Jacob an alumnus of NIFT-Bangalore who also holds a juicy Masters Degree in Fashion/ Textiles from Winchester school of Art, UK and the founder of Short Edition.

Armed with more than six years of industrial experience working with Madura Fashion & Lifestyle, People and Reliance trends, Sneha has decided to start her own line for little baby boys and girls.

How did it all begin?

“I always wanted to be a designer since I was 10 years old; though fashion design happened when I got through NIFT and ever since I’ve stuck to it,” recalls Sneha.

Having worked in the fashion corporate world for a few years and shifting base to Mumbai after getting married, Sneha decided to take a break and freelance instead of returning to the regular 9-5 job.

Being an exclusive children’s wear designer since the last five years, ‘Short Edition’ is her first attempt at infant wear with an ethnic touch that is something she never got a chance to dabble in earlier.

Why Infant wear

We attended one of her first exhibitions and asked her about her love for toddler wear, “I’ve always been curious about infant wear and it just seemed like a brave idea for my first exhibition. Also, there are not many players for ethnic infant wear in the market, which further validated my purpose. Infants by far are the cutest clients!” smiles Sneha.

Sneha wanted to start small taking baby steps with her first exhibition, so she embarked upon her maiden venture with a mix of minimal investment but a far larger investment in terms of time and effort.

Branding

We loved the brand name and Sneha explains, “’Short Edition’ is literally a tiny part of a larger dream project. I’m a big fan of words and this name seemed like the right term for a concise collection for the little people of the world.”

Challenges faced

“One of the biggest challenges for a children’s wear designer is to please the client and a parent at the same time It’s a complicated hit and miss game, that is influenced by very many other factors like trend, craftsmanship and sharp prices. But what’s a job without a challenge,” admits Sneha.

What makes Short Edition so unique?

Sneha further adds, “Ethnic inspired infant wear is rare in itself. Besides which, my aesthetic of usefulness and sustainable design adds a greater wholesome value to the product. I have the knack of picking specific things and making just that work well. For instance, in my opinion, girls and women alike must wear dresses; it’s the single most feminine garment in a woman’s wardrobe. This led me to just a dress collection for infant girls.”

Products and Price Range

At ‘Short Edition’, every dress is one of a kind. From tunics, little frocks and kurtas pick the ones you like that’s within a price range or INR 500/- to INR 750/- depending on the style, material and time involved in making.

Dressing tips for your baby

If we could copyright one phrase, this would be it – ‘Babies look adorable by default!’

Sneha adds, “But if I were to choose a few key trends for girls, it would be printed smock dresses, denim looking leggings, a smart cotton blazer; cute accessories like strappy sandals, clips, large bows and a glittery hat. Boys would have it smart with colour blocked polo tees, skinny jeans, linen shirts, a denim jacket, a bow tie, funky socks and white sneakers with pop coloured shoe laces you could change on occasion.”

So what are you waiting for; have fun dressing up your toddlers today with a splash of Short Edition!
