More Than Reading and Writing: Celebrating Shloka’s First Year in the W.I.N.G.S. Program

A certificate of completion presented to Shloka Harbola for successfully completing one year in the W.I.N.G.S. Junior Program and being promoted to the W.I.N.G.S. Explorer Program, highlighting her growth in writing, speaking, creative thinking, and artistic expression.
Proud moment for Shloka being promoted to W.I.N.G.S. Program – Explorer.

I was going through all the notebooks, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that one of my star students, Shloka, has completed one year in our W.I.N.G.S. (Offline) Junior Program. She joined the program in Grade 2, and now, as a 3rd Grader, she has learnt so much (be it in writing, ideation, brainstorming, responsibility, kindness, and confidence), that she has been promoted to the W.I.N.G.S. Program (Explorer Program), where she will attend sessions for 4th and 5th graders.

Shloka’s reading and writing have evolved over the months. What makes Shloka stand out is that she trusted me as her mentor, and that was a huge incentive for me to guide her. I must also thank her wonderful parents and her grandmother, whom I’ve got to know over the last year for being so supportive and trusting.

What our star performer has to say about our program.

Shloka has not only learnt spellings, but also new words/vocabulary, creative art, out-of-the-box thinking, problem-solving, and a solution-oriented approach. She’s never shied away from learning new and big words, even if she makes a ‘mistake’.

She’s put 100% into reading, writing stories, doodling, mind mapping and brainstorming, always putting in that extra effort for the classwork and weekend homework. For one weekend homework task where the children had to go to the park, identify three things, and describe them, Shloka was the only one who stuck a flower, a leaf, and a twig and wrote about them.

In fact, her reading and writing have improved so much that she started reading Grade 4 and 5 books with ease. And the most adorable part: she helped friends who struggled to read, helped them read a book in class, explained the meanings, and wrote spellings for them too.

That extra mile, that extra effort, speaks volumes about a child’s growth mindset.

We are super proud to have published Shloka’s first little write-up: My Life as a Bird: A Young Writer’s Creative Journey

In her first days in the program, she wrote about her best friend, Mishika, and guess what: one year later, Mishika joined the W.I.N.G.S. Program too, and she’s showing excellent progress too!

I always look forward to seeing Shloka in my class. She’s always 10-15 minutes early, and I love that because I get a few extra minutes to talk to her and play with her, while she gets to play with Capt. Pawsitive. And without me even having to tell her, she takes out her book and starts the activity, as she so looks forward to it.

I recall she came on her birthday to attend my session, wearing a pretty frock, and after attending the session, we all got a Ferrero Rocher chocolate from her, including my husband. She got one for each of us.

She may be a 3rd grader, but Shloka has taught me so much more – to be happy, chirpy, mischievous, but kind, helpful and focused in studying and putting our best in whatever work we do. Thank you, Shloka, for being you and for being the mentor I look up to!

A huge thank you to Shloka’s parents for trusting me, for putting in so much effort with her, and for her. We couldn’t have done this without you.
