Calligraphy and typography is an art of communicating through letters. They combine both aesthetics and literary arts.  This workshop is going to introduce you to these amazing art forms.

Dirty Alphabets, as the name suggests is going to be a workshop related to typography and calligraphy where you will get your hands dirty and play with letters. This workshop aims to open your minds and eyes to the infinite possibilities around you. You need not have a readymade tool to express yourself, it could just be lying around you in the mud, on the bhel wala thela and so on.

The workshop will have you going around and searching for calligraphy tools in things lying around and using the same to create interesting calligraphy. You will be taught the basics of calligraphy…though calligraphy is a way of expressing yourself so each one of you will have your own style.

Matsya will be mainly handling calligraphy in Roman script where each participant will be free to choose his/ her own script. The typography part of it will have you going around and looking for certain letters in the objects around you. Each letter will have to be chosen in context with the theme given; so you will really have to push yourselves hard to get the essence of the theme right.

There will be some fun exercises before the actual exploration to make you used to the subject. The workshop is going to be more of an exploration workshop than a teaching workshop with an aim to make you aware and conscious of your surroundings. You will also get to learn how to express with limited sources.
